Winter Soup Share info

What is the Soup Share?

The Soup Share is our farm’s winter CSA offering. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Traditionally, a CSA customer purchases a “share” of a farm at the beginning of a farm season; that upfront investment allows farmers to buy seeds, supplies, and tools needed for the growing season. Then, throughout the season, CSA members pick up some of whatever vegetables are in season that week. This direct relationship between the farmer and the consumer allows both parties to share in the risk of crop failure and the reward of a bountiful harvest.

Our CSA model offers sliding-scale payment options to all, so that those who can afford to invest in our farm can do, so while those who need access to free and reduced price produce can still reserve their share at the beginning of the farm season. All of our members receive the same food regardless of they paid. Since we don’t have as much fresh produce in the winter as the summer and fall, the main feature of our winter CSA is soup, made with our own fresh vegetables throughout the year by our kitchen partner, Lalu’s Chicken, and frozen so that we have food to distribute all winter long.

When is the Soup Share?

Our Soup Share offers 10 bi-weekly pickups from January-May. Soup Share members can pick up from the farm at 2 Washington St. in Ipswich every other Saturday from 10am-12pm. We send out a bi-weekly newsletter during the Soup Share season reminding members of the pickup dates and letting them know what’s going on at the farm as well as what we predict will be available in the share that week.

What can I expect in my Soup Share?

Soup Share members can choose between 1 and 2 quarts of frozen soup per pickup. Flavors include: roasted tomato basil, minestrone, vegetarian chili, meat chili, corn chowder, white bean escarole, broccoli cheddar, butternut squash bisque, carrot ginger, and more!

Soup Share members also receive one loaf of fresh bread per pickup, baked locally by Bonny Breads.

We also offer other products like jarred tomatoes, hot sauce, salsa verde, kimchi, and sauerkraut made with Three Sisters veggies by our kitchen partner, Eastern Mass. Provisions.

Additionally, whenever fresh produce is available from the farm, mostly from our unheated tunnels in the field, those vegetables will also be included in the soup share.
