What is CSA? What is a farm share?
Our paid shares are sold out for 2024 and we have a long waiting list. If you are looking for a farm share this year we encourage you to check out MARSHVIEW FARM, right across town - wonderful farmers and even more wonderful people! Check them out here.
At Three Sisters, we use the CSA model: Community Supported Agriculture. This way of farming is based on a direct relationship between eaters (you) and the farmer (us). You buy a “share” of the farm before the growing season, and we grow food for you, distributing it throughout the summer and fall. Your upfront investment helps us to buy seeds and supplies to start the farming season. Together, we share both the risks of crop failure and the rewards of a bountiful harvest.
Our Summer share CSA pickups are every week from mid-June to mid/late October, approximately 18-20 weeks total (exact dates depend on weather and crop conditions). Our Fall CSA share is 4 total pickups: every other week from early November to mid-December.
We are sold out of 2024 paid shares; if you want to join our waiting list please click the button above.
“Our family loves the quality of the produce, the selection, the mission, the people involved, the pick up experience - all of it!” - CSA member
“Fabulous quality produce, it stayed fresh for a long time in the fridge. so worth the investment.” - Summer 2023 CSA member
What is in the summer share?
You’ll find all kinds of vegetables as they come into season, like carrots, beans, tomatoes, potatoes, leeks and onions, broccoli, summer squash and zucchini, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, cooking greens and salad greens, radishes, winter squash, cabbage, beets and turnips, and herbs.
What we plant and harvest changes with the growing season. Early on in the CSA, you will see lots of greens; as we get into August and September you will see more of the summer crops like eggplant, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Some veggies need refrigeration and some won’t; some need to be eaten right away, while others store well in your fridge or cupboard.
“In addition to the great produce, I love that there is a broader mission behind the farm and opportunities to volunteer.” - CSA member
how does it work at three sisters?
We use a choice-based model for the CSA: all members can choose each week from what we have, picking your preferences.
In 2024 we are again incorporating fruit into the regular CSA for all members. You can expect fruit in about half the weeks of the share. (Our fruit comes from partners at local orchards like Brookdale Fruit Farm and Cider Hill Farm.)
We are also growing some flowers in bulk that will be included in the choices for some weeks, as well.
We send out a weekly newsletter with the list of everything we expect to harvest in the coming week, along with some recipes for inspiration and cooking support.
“I was a full paying, full share member for several years but would not have been able to enjoy that luxury since retiring with health issues - I am TRULY grateful beyond words for the income-flexible opportunity this year to enjoy fresh produce.” - longtime CSA member
